DasRadial
Dark Wave Sounds - Retro and radical modern
LETZEBUERGER LAND
With their first studio album, DasRADIAL creates a sonic manifesto against the dark side of modern society. Between gliding synths and driving beats, it addresses the burning issues of our time: digital mass surveillance, climate change, the shift to the right, fast fashion, drug culture – relentless, multi-layered, direct.
Musician and actor Max Thommes, who spent 10 years as the drummer in the band INBORN! produced by acclaimed producer Ross Robinson, has been going his own way since 2019, creating a dystopian cosmos with DasRADIAL. After numerous works for the German State Theatre, he also produced the title song for the Arte documentary ‘UNTERM_RADAR’. With its electronic beats and sharp-tongued lyrics, DasRADIAL now seeks a symbiosis between fictional character and live musical performance. Musically, DasRADIAL blends dark wave, Neue Deutsche Welle, techno and pop into a sound that is both retro and radically modern. The album was produced by Aaron Ahrends (Say Yes Dog). The lyrics – sometimes razor-sharp, sometimes poetic – string together keywords to form complex chains of associations that challenge listeners and leave room for interpretation.
Max Thommes now shares the stage with drummer Wouter Rentema from Bonaparte and has performed at festivals such as SWN in Cardiff and the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. To celebrate the album release, a show is planned at the Fête de la Musique on 13 June in Luxembourg City.
